FREY Environmental, Inc. (FREY) served as the environmental consultant of record for a remediation project in Glendale, California, where chlorinated volatile organic compounds (CVOCs), including tetrachloroethene (PCE) and trichloroethene (TCE), were identified in subsurface soil vapor at concentrations exceeding 10,000 micrograms per cubic meter (µg/m³). FREY implemented a soil vapor extraction (SVE) remediation system to remove volatile contaminants from the subsurface and significantly reduce contaminant concentrations. The SVE system operated by applying a vacuum through strategically installed extraction wells, drawing contaminated soil vapor from beneath the property to the surface for treatment. The extracted vapor was then passed through aboveground vessels containing activated carbon, which adsorbed the contaminants before the treated air was discharged in accordance with applicable requirements. Through the operation of the SVE system, FREY achieved a 99% reduction in targeted contaminant concentrations within just six months. Initial soil vapor concentrations exceeding 10,000 µg/m³ were reduced to non-detect levels in subsequent sampling. This project demonstrates FREY Environmental’s ability to implement effective, performance-driven remediation strategies for chlorinated solvent contamination. By combining proven remediation technology with systematic performance monitoring, FREY delivered substantial contaminant reductions within a relatively short timeframe, helping advance the site toward its environmental remediation objectives.
